5TH MAY, 2017
With the sole purpose of imparting MUN culture to youths of Chitwan district and encouraging them to participate in MUN sessions, Youth Thinkers’ Society Chitwan had recently organized a Model United Nations workshop at International School of Management and Technology (ISMT), Bharatpur, Chitwan. On 5th May, 2017, we, a group of 8 YTS members successfully conducted the workshop among 60 students of BTEC HND level 4 in computing and systems development faculty.
The workshop started at 10 am with an introductory speech about YTS Chitwan, its objectives and functions by Mr. Sanjeev Poudel. Then, Miss Salona Kafle presented about the history of the UN, its aims, functions, executive bodies and other organs. Following her, Miss Kritika Adhikari then explained the students about the meaning of Model United Nations and its benefits in a student’s life. After hearing about MUN’s benefits, the students were very enthusiastic to learn how it works. Then, Miss Pallavi Shrestha explained all the Rules of Procedure to be followed while participating in MUN sessions. As the students seemed little bit confused about the rules, we took a short break from the presentation and showed them the photos of our previous MUN Workshops, CMUN and previous international MUN conferences. Two videos were played so as to make them understand in a simpler and more entertaining way. After the end of the presentation, some students raised questions on ROPs they were confused about and we explained the answers to the point of their satisfaction. The workshop was concluded with a MUN experience speech by Miss Sabu Sharma and Mr. Mahendra Kharal.
Lastly, we informed the students about the upcoming Grand MUN and a considerable number of students showed great interest in participating as delegates. “This workshop was very helpful for students like us who did not know anything about MUN, and yes we are passionately interested in participating in MUN sessions in future”, said Kanchan Ghimire, one of the students. Manoj Chhetri said, “My thanks to YTS Chitwan for bringing this opportunity to our college. I think this is a great platform for learning about the world and improving our debating skills.” It was indeed a great experience for us to impart our skills and knowledge about MUN to college students.
